[2,500 is a bit much how many miles? There is a good chance that it will
need a new transmission soon.

Scott,
I don't know how you can just come out and say that price sounds too high,
when the car is supposedly in good shape.
I just ran a KBB report on this vehicle being purchased from a private party
in good condition not excellent with 170Kmi. $2585.
Sounds like a fair deal to me. If he is buying from a used car dealer, and
has any warantee, it's even better.
I'll grant you, the achillees heel in the car is the Autotrans, and he
should be able to find a manual for less.
Gary,
Just make sure everything is working well when you buy it, especially
mechanical, brakes, handbrakes, no strange noises, auto-trans shifts
smoothly, engine starts and runs well. You will probably find some niggles
- power windows, door locks, stereo and speakers, power windows, windsheild
wiper/washer. Give it a good test drive and check all the bells and
whistles thouroughly. You will likely have a few things break down the
road, so the more that is working when you buy it the better.
Just my thoughts.
Ben
p.s. if you are looking for fairly-well sorted out manual 100 Quattro, I
know someone who would like to sell his for around$3K.
