subframe reinstallation

Hi list,

I heard some rumors about this:
I one removes the subframe (front or back), can it be reinstalled just like
that or does it require a special procedure regarding alignment?
A friend of mine did this and after that the car's roadholding wasn't that
good anymore, like it has a really bad alignment or something.

Any BTDT's??

Question relates to an '85 UrQ (mine), but my friend's car is an '86 Coupe
quattro.
