Hey everyone,
Tomorrow night, Friday, I'll be making the 1.5-2 hour drive out to the
nearest drag strip. I'll be taking the turbo charged VW Quantum syncro with
me. In stock form, this car ran a 17.0 @ 79mph with 0-60 happening in 9.6
seconds. I'm hoping that I can knock at least one second off that quarter
mile time. The engine has much more torque than the stock, though the power
falls off 1000 rpm sooner than stock, which means I'll have to be in 5th (!)
gear by the end of the 1/4 mile. I have huge power starting at 2000 rpm,
though it falls off at about 4500. The track is 2000-3000 feet above sea
level, though with the turbo, it shouldn't affect my times too much. It is
very cold there, right now it's 45°F! This will help the intercooling, and
may allow me to run even more than the 8° initial timing advance I am
running right now.
I'll let ya guys know how well I do, my times might not be as good as they
will be in another 3 months (EFI and new turbo with 18psi) but I still
expect to beat on a few rice rockets :)
Mike
