Odd smell, '87 5ktqa

If you have been traveling with your lights on, it could be the
multifunction switch on the steering column, where the contacts actually
melt the plastic that holds them. I replaced that switch this year, because
the lights failed, and at the autopsy I saw the melted blackened
plastic. It took a few months for it to totally fail, after the cooked
smell was noticed.

But, it lasted about 13 years, so I guess it is a slow cooker.

That would be my candidate, if you haven't already gone to relayed circuits.
