turbo knuckle hose - cooper elbow
My daughter's 89 200 turbo quit running last night. Repeated cranking and
nothing then all of a sudden it started again. Made it home with no
problem. I thought it might be an electrical problem, but started to tight
the clams on her hoses and the plastic elbow on the knuckle hose (rubber
piece with 3 outlets sitting on top of valve cover gasket) just
disintegrated on me. I took the knuckle hose and there was a slight cut in
rubber. Audi dealer had never the hose nor the elbow on stock. Solution:
some silicone rubber on the rubber fitting till the replacement part comes
in. The elbow was more of a challenge. Local hardware shop had a copper
supplies. One elbow, one nipple and a little straight piece were soldered
together and everything is now all back together. Tomorrow the silicone
rubber should be dry. At least this elbow will not disintegrate! I now
suspect this the dead engine was a vacuum leak, not an electrical problem.
Has anyone elbow tried a copper elbow. I air tested the solder joints and
they seemed air tight so we should have no vacuum leak.
