heh, I'm not that touchy about it :-) I just point it out to people
because it's hard to notice(the metallic part is quite subtle,
especially if I haven't done a good job on paint maintenance, which
is more often than not), but a cool effect; how many other cars go
from black to a purple-ish depending upon the lighting? Really
wacked me out one day washing the car when I noticed it. Walked
back+forth a couple times, staring at the same panel in the
sun...black...purple.....black...purple. "What are you -doing-?"
came a question from my father, who had stopped washing his car and
was staring at me.
I was told by the PO that it's Panther Black, but I can't, for the
life of me, find that a color by that name anywhere. I've become
more and more suspicious that the color name was entirely made up.
If someone is reading and has the paint codes, I'll check the trunk
label soon as the 3 inches of snow are off the car(well, ok, soon as
I feel like clearing the 3 inches of snow off the car :-)
The whole thing figures, too. Just washed it not 2 days ago, but I
missed a whole bunch of spots, so I couldn't clean the paintwork,
glaze+wax, which was the whole point of freezing my ass off
outside...I had forgotten to do all this in late fall, so there's
pretty much no wax on the paint right now. Then it goes and snows.
Grrr.
If I can find a patch of "car" that isn't covered in ice+snow, I'll
try to get a decent macro shot of the paint too.
