The washers are called crush washers. They deform when the banjo bolts are
torqued properly. This usually means there are ridges on the sealing
surfaces. If you happen to get everything lined up again, you can reseal,
but your just as likely to have leaks when reusing the washers. One way to
reduce the likelihood of leaks is to lap them on a flat surface like glass
plate with an appropriate abrasive.
