thanks for all your info on the gt. unfortunately the seller has increased
his price from 1990 to 4995
ebay had one on auction a fix up '87 for $600
now the question is which year to get
87 or the newer gt coupe.
i had a bad experience with the 89 turbo and the cooling issues.
is the 87 easy to fix and what of the 2.3's additional cooling ?
thanks again
steve

I thought of one other item to check that would differentiate the 87.5 from
all other CGT's. Along with the addition 2.3L engine, Audi engineers
apparently felt that some additional cooling was necessary, so an auxillary
radiator was added. A couple screws is all that holds down the top radiator
shroud. Removing it should reveal the thinner radiator nested neatly in
front of the original one. It might also be visible from underneath if the
car has had any radiator work done, as the lower shroud is often destroyed
during the work and not replaced.
A word of advice on the Aux Radiator. If it goes bad you have two options:
1) You can by-pass it by crimping or plugging the old connections. I
personally don't recommend this, but I believe that others have done it. 2)
Or, be prepared to pay about $425 for a replacement and a long wait for the
part. My CGT was in the shop for the entire month of May. I wondered if
one was custom built for my order since it took about 4 weeks to be
delivered!
Regards
Wayne
