IMHO, it won't. And I don't speak from just opinion... it's from personal
experience. My '92 100S (now with 192k miles) has had AMSOIL synthetic
since 49k miles (when I bought it), at change intervals of 12k miles, with
filter changes between 4k to 6k miles. And that's being conservative!!
Recently I decided to go with AMSOIL's (maximum) recommendation... and
change it at 25k miles, with filter changes at 12k miles. (Note: this is
with AMSOIL synthetic and filters. YMMV with other filters and oil.)

So far, so good. The car runs incredibly smooth and quiet. I'm looking
forward to the next 200k miles!! :-)

IMHO, go for it. Just make sure that you use a good quality filter (i.e.
not Wal-mart brand, not Fram etc.). I've heard that Mobil 1's new filter is
pretty good.

Hope that helps.

Jim
