It is electronic. There's a sender unit on top of the
transmission; they sometimes get broken or crudded up.
If that's not it, probably time for a new speedo.

Yes, there is a little plastic "fork" that the key cylinder
turns to unlock the doors. They get old and break. Since
the early 90's, they have been superceded with a new, much
beefier part. Any dealer can sell you the new kit. The door
panel needs to be removed to install it, but it's not hard.

Yup. Just slip something in there and pull the grill off.
It should snap right out.

I've used both, my slight preference is for Thule. Either
is a good rack, buy whichever you like.
I had one of these cars for many years, my first Q. I put
about 180K on it, sold it a couple of years back to a friend
on the list. I sold it as a parts car, figuring it needed too
many things. But he fixed it up nicely, it's been his daily
driver since, toppping about 270K by now.
