Unusual steering groan

As a Washington lister enjoying the 10 inches of snow we got in the last 2
days I have been out "enjoying" quattro. By which I mean doing drifts,
donuts and generally insane manuevers. All safely off public roads, of
course :)

I have now noticed a steering groan and can also feel it through the wheel.
Mind you, my pump has always had a little groan to it, but it was
low-pitched and very quiet/weak. This is audible now and is significantly
higher pitched than before. A lot of the driving done recently has involved
"lock-to-lock" turning.
Have I damaged my steering pump or do I just have some snow/ice on the
belts. I no longer have an undertray - it mysteriously disappeared quite
some time ago.

I would love to be out there tinkering, checking the belts and such, but
it's currently 24 degrees and a little breezy. Any thoughts for me when the
weather clears up?
