<< Although your insight is most definitly appriciated, I seriously doubt
that you can feel a 12 horsepower difference.>>

Well, 12hp in a t85 is about a 10% increase in power, like if you added 50hp
to a 500hp car. Its all relative, and it depends where that increase is.
Peymons car falls over flat at 5500 without the cam, with it pulls clean and
builds power to the revlimiter. That is power you can feel, by adding it to
a different part of the band. I can't say the power increase is necessarily
noticeable at 4500, but at 6500, it is night and day, you can't help but feel
the increase. The stock Audi cams are pigs at anything over 5500.

<< Let's take my GT for example. I did a 270 Elgin cam, with a milled head,
K&N and tubular header. Power math says about 10-20hp for the cam, and 10%
for the exhaust (meaning pre cam 11 hp, post 12-13.). After advancing the
timing, the car was much quicker than it was stock. Much quicker. But did I
think it was that much quicker? Well, without any other modifications, I ran
a 1.5 mile course over 2 seconds quicker than pre engine modifications (high
1:07/low 1:08 v. 1:10:xx), and was able to pull nearly 20mph faster on the
uphill straight at Walkins Glen (104 corrected v. 121 corrected). That, my
friend, is a difference.

Do I think that my car now has 133hp? Probably, given it's performance. It
probably has closer to 140, but who's counting. I'm trying to save enough
funds to dyno it before the 20V goes in, so hopefully we'll find out. So a
20hp difference doesn't mean the car is going to pul 1 second faster to 60,
but it DOES make a difference. Your car might not be set up properly, or be
taking full advantage of the cam.>>

The car is taking full advantage of the cam within reason, 2.3 bottom end,
10:1, ported head and intake, with the cam there is a very noticeable
increase in power above 5000, there is no denying it. If your car is
accelerating 20mph more quickly through a given stretch, its quicker,
wheteher you can feel it or not. How you feel the power is subjective,
actual proportional speed is not. If the car is quicker, then its quicker,
not sure what your point is?

<< Remember, an engine builder can claim any horsepower amount, as long as
he can MOMENTARILY make it under SOME condition. So, that Blau cam can
easily make 20hp more, >>

I think that Blau is full of bullocks, I've even called them on it. Between
thier cam, head, and TB they are claiming rediculous power gains, quoted from
their site:

"To get the most out of your naturally aspirated 5cyl. 4K without internal
upgrades you will need to get the engine to work in unison through the flow
of air and fuel throughout the engine. That means upgrades in components
affecting breathing: intake air box, throttle body, camshaft, and exhaust.
With this combination, you will improve power significantly. Approximate
horsepower gained is close to the mid 150's, with 0-60 times in just under 9
seconds. If you want more horsepower you must spend a significant amount of
money and go inside the engine by installing a Blaufergnügen Sport big valve
ported/polished cylinder head. This adds approx. another 18-25 hp to the 150
and you may be very content taking you past the 162 bhp stock MC turbo 10V
engine. If that's not enough, transplant the engine with an MC turbo engine
with a boost upgrade that reaches around 235 hp."

They are claiming over 180hp with a ported head, cam, filter, and TB??! Your
example about your dad's car is true, but they've listed out all the
variables here, I'm sorry, they just don't add up. Thier response was very
unconvincing too...

I agree with Peymon, a cam upgrade in a basically stock motor will result in
a 5-10hp gain above 4500 RPM at peak power, reducing restrictions before and
after the valves will help this peak number even more. I'd estimate that
Peymons 2.3 is making a solid 145 crank hp at 6000, its a very fun car to
drive, and is significantly faster than stock, about a 7.5-8sec 0-60.
