I have a 1989 audi 200 turbo automatic in sad shape.
So the question is - is my audi worth saving - or should i be looking for
something else - like the 87 gt. however, the more i look out there for an
audi to have as my hobby car an older 87-91 audi is going to cost me >$5k.
let me describe my problems. audi 200 turbo 3 speed automatic with 130,000
miles. thanks in advance.
1.cracked radiator overheating engine problems - the turbo has always been a
nightmare to cool . perhaps a new radiator will effectively cool the
engine.
2. leaking brake lines - my "mechanic" says the brakes are leaking fluid,
the power-assist brake controller is old and needs to be replaced
3. electric short on battery causing battery to drain in 2 days - if the car
is off for more than 2 days the audi battery will drain down.
4. transmission -either going or maybe, ecu is not shifting properly.
"mechanic" says oil is leaking through transmission and transmission shifts
into 2nd at 4000 rpms, basically it's fine in the flats but would hate to
see if i had to go up a hill.
as far as service - this car has been regularly serviced in Hinsdale,
Illinois, I have replaced several items over the last 4 years of owning the
car.
I've had the following replaced. fuel pump, water pump and timing belt, front
wheel bearings, front struts, tires, center muffler, headlights, battery,
brake rotors, thermostatic switch
thanks again
