Downpipe issues...

This past summer I did some major R&R on my '84 Urquattro. During that time
I did find a hairline crack in the same place that Jerry mentioned....at the
joint between the pipe and cast part. I took it to a recommended (by
another welder) automotive welding guy here in Denver. He drilled/shaved
the cracked part out and rewelded it. I've heard of the difficulties in
welding this part, but he didn't seem to think it was a big issue. The part
is now bolted back up and we'll see how it holds up. Only time will tell.
(I did buy a used DP for a spare, just in case). So my advice is to find a
good welder and take the DP to him and show him what you want to be done. I
went to a few places during my search. Good luck.

I'm curiouse about this since my original one broke
just off in my hands when I went to pull it out of the
car. Did you have and header exhaust wrap on yours by
chance? I'm blaming that for rusting mine out.
Luckily I had one in my pile of stuff.
