ABS test unit 2-LED and driveshaft material question...

Hi!
My ABS never worked on my 1989 200 right up to the day when it was
stripped apart. I know sometime in the future when the car is all in 1
piece again I will have to sort the ABS out properly. Last night I was
going through the Bentley manual covering ABS and they use a device
called "2 LED".
Does anyone have procedures for doing the job of the 2LED or even better
knows how it can be constructed? I will ofcourse take the car to the
agents when it is completed and have them get a 2LED and use it to see
where the faults lie, but I've had some stupid dealings with the agents
in the past and would prefer they don't touch anything.
I also still need to find a replacement driveshaft sans CV joints. I
have 1 shaft from a 2.8 V6 manual C4 100 front-wheel drive, but have had
the most difficult time sourcing the remaining unit locally. It was
suggested to me to get it machined up, but I need to know what material
I should use. Anyone know what metal to ask for? If I can go for a
stronger than stock material then all the more better for me.
Stupid questions, I know. Sorry for WOB in that case.
G.
