When I am at home with a broadband connection, or at work with multiple
T1's, I agree with you completely.

However, when I am travelling, or stuck at a client who has no other net
access for me, I use a CDPD modem at 14400 baud or so.  All of a sudden,
extra traffic becomes a big deal.  Then I don't agree with you and curse the
extra stuff.

There are people on the list who pay by the byte (true for the CDPD when
roaming, too).  Making separate lists allows for some pre-selection of
traffic.

It's actually not the number of messages that bother me the most on the slow
or expensive connection, its when people include huge amounts of previous
messages just to add one line.  If everyone took more care in snipping
included messages, the byte count would drop to where the extra posting
wouldn't matter.
