More icky clutch & iffy brake issues...

At Huw's suggestion, I switched off ABS and the brakes are just great
(except no ABS).  SO...  that brings it back to the half-shaft that was
replaced when I had the clutch done.  According to the mechanic, the fins
(?) were not *identical* to the original parts from my car.  This half-shaft
was remanufactured.

1.  Would a non-Audi half-shaft (for a different make of car) look close to
an Audi one?

2.  Is there an Audi half-shaft that would have looked close, but not
exactly the same as the one for my '88 5000s quattro?

3.  I have an option to buy a used, but inspected (not reman.) half-shaft
from an Audi junkyard for $75.  Any experiences or advice?

As for the gooey clutch...  Could it just be a lubrication issue somewhere?
Where is the most likely place?
