Idle and Acceleration issues

So... I was driving down Scotts Valley Drive yesterday when suddenly my
4kq started to lurch. At this point, I thinks to myself, I thinks "Self,
that ain't right". Then at the next stop light, it nearly dies and
doesn't respond to any throttle commands. Finally, after flooring it for
a coupla seconds, it picks itself up out of the gutter and very roughly
starts its foreward movement again. I go through the gears just fine,
but every time I change anything about the throttle, it bucked like mad.
I limped into a parking lot, shut it off, start it up after checking for
obvious issues under the hood, and it's just fine. Then on Highway 9 it
did it again today at 65 mph. So what's wrong with my car? Has this ever
happened to anybody? I seem to remember something similar in my old BMW
535is, but I don't remember what was wrong.
