Fuel consumption signals in CIS and CIS-E III?

Hi!

Just some idle minded musings... :)

I was looking through my Bentley books, especially the onboard computer
inputs for how it calculates fuel consumption and range. I see on
the CIS equipped vehiles like the 200/5k turbo it gets a signal from
the flowmeter potentiometer on the CIS metering head, but for the
CIS-E III cars the signal comes direct from the ECU, there doesn't
seem to be a potentiometer for that setup.

Anyone venture a guess at how the CIS-E III unit does the signaling?
