revisited: stereo woes

Jim,
I think you'll have some problems with imaging if you only have 3.5"
coaxes in the dash locations for the front soundstage.

Although some people hate doing this, IMHO, you have to put some
speakers
in the doors or build kickpanels- proper 5.25" or 6.5" midranges and
separate tweeters.

With the Nak, you're not going to get time alignment, so proper
installation
of the speakers will be critical.

If you want to avoid cutting metal, I think you'll be limited to the
stock
size speaker in the back, which isn't too big, IIRC.

An outboard amp is a very good investment in terms of improving sound
quality- even a fairly inexpensive outboard amp will outperform the
on-board amp in a head unit- don't believe the hype when it comes to
power outputs from a head unit.

Alpine has some nice 4-channel amps that will do fine for a budget
install.
You won't need a whole lot of power to the speakers, especially once you
add a sub to take the bass load off of the main speakers.

For the best possible sound, you'll have to add a sub, which is what
I'm faced with now.

Taka

mind if I bother you a bit? (cc'ing the list.. I apologize for
cluttering
it up with more stereo stuff, but I figure someone might have the holy
grail of suggestions)

ordered a Nak CD-35Z today (wanted the 45Z, but it was too expensive).
Have 3 1/2" Rockford Fosgates for the front.
What should I do for the rear speakers? The only constraint is $200-300

and my irrational fear of cutting the metal under the rear deck (87
4kq).
I'd be happy to add an amp (the deck has 2 2v preamp outs).

Thanks,
Jim
