I just bought a 1986 5000 Cs Turbo Quattro that has been sitting for ne=
arly 8 months. I have only one problem with the car so far, which seems to=
be a common one. My parking brake will not function at all.
I have replaced the cables, calipers, pads, and the adjusting bolt. Ev=
erything is properly set, with the actuating levers pulling to their stops =
when the brake is engaged, and then returning when released. There is litt=
le resistance with the parking level all the way to the upper stop.
From what I understand, this system is completely mechanical, and shoul=
d not be affected by a pressure problem with the master cylinder (as one me=
chanic suggested).
Should I do anything with new calipers to help the self-adjusting? Eve=
n out of the box, the calipers did not seem to respond when the actuating l=
ever was turned (using a 1/4" allan key).
Any suggestions would really be appreciated. I'm going to try a few mo=
re things, maybe try replacing the rotors?
On another note, I was pleasantly suprised at the cost for parts, costi=
ng only $320 can. for everything mentioned. Maybe it was too cheap.
