Hi Scott,

Thanks for the tip.  I did find a thread repairer (rethreading) die, on Snap-On's website.  I was turned off by the $9 shipping for a $2 tool tho'.

I ended up getting a nut of the right size, and used a jigsaw blade to cut a couple notches through the threads.  I used it with some success to clean up the threads on the strut.  They're still not perfect, but I think I will be able to actually put it back on.  I didn't bother yet tho'.
