Voltage regulator brush replacement/soldering ?

I just did brushes about two weeks ago. I used silver solder and my portable
butane soldering iron from Radio Shack. Worked nifty.

Your problem is that the solder station isn't able to provide enough heat
given the large heat sink area that the brushes and holder present.

Reading up on silver solder -- there is hard silver solder, soft silver
solder, and electronic silver solder. I used electronic silver solder. 96%
tin, 4% silver. The melt temp is pretty low (higher than 60/40 Sn/Pb
though). Hard silver solder melts at about 1500 degrees. Since the
pre-existing solder on the brushes I was working on melted with my little
butane soldering iron, I assume it was electronic grade stuff.
