Voltage Regulator Interchangeability

Does anyone know if the alternator voltage regulator from an '86 5ktq is
interchangeable with one from an '88 VW Scirocco 16V?  Both alternators are
Bosch 14V, 90A but the part numbers on the voltage regulators are different.
