Didn't you see the caravan closing the gap between them and you?  Watching
what traffic behind you is doing, or is about to do, is paramount to good
driving.

If most of the caravan (except the one car) went around you on the right
there must not have been traffic in the right lane at that time.  Wouldn't it
be easier (and more polite) to just move over long BEFORE they got to your
bumper?
