Mihnea has a good point.

We have to ask the Audi directors at that time why they did that :)

This is a fact, VAG has moved entire production lines from one country to
another, just because the product wouldn't comply with new laws on the origin
country, or sometimes in the same factory there is more than one production
line, so they could have been testing the new line, which explains the reduced
number of parallel building.

Bottom line, they, auto industry, just do what they want. This is not a VAG
priviledge, how many years did take Scoobaru to bring the WRX (blasfemy) to
the US?  and now they are surprised with the number of sales. Duhh...

Never understimate the divagation capacity of someone that can deal with  a
5cyl inline.
