Please advise on A/C conversion

Well, I'll have to leave the specifics of this one to the list, as I don't know for sure.

What I would do would be to start the car, and turn the A/C on.  Then open the hood, and watch the compressor when it kicks in.  When the clutch engages, you should see the center part of the compressor pulley spin.  Normally the actual pulley will spin, but the center part you can see will remain stationary.

Anyhow, when it starts spinning, see if it comes up to speed right away, or it kind of "spools up".  It should spin at exactly the same speed as the vibration dampener it is driven from, as the pulleys appear to be the same size.  If that center part takes a while to come up to speed, or doesn't appear to spin as fast as it ought to, then I would say your clutch is failing.
Again, though, I'm not the expert on this, just spent an awful lot of time working with mine.
