Rolf,

I think, with all due respect, you need to get some facts before state what
you are saying.

A.- started life as a 225hp TT version

I risk to say it is close to none. It would be too expensive.

B.- have been internally modified or are not really putting out 300hp

The same thing. There are some that changed internal parts, but mostly to
increase displacement. There is a beast somewhere in Scandinavia that puts out
400+hp, with a 2l modified version.

C.- waiting for the right time to explode. It could take 20k miles, or even
perhaps 80k miles. It's a matter of time.

This engine is sensitive and not like the I5, but as Javad said, it is a tuner
dream. I wish I could have 5 valves on my I5. Yes, you have to replace the
timing belt earlier than Audi/VW recommends, yes you have to be careful with
several other things, but is still a good engine or VW wouldn't be using it
all over.

BTW, I do have two cars with this engine, one modified, not to 300hp, but with
almost 40k miles of 200 ft/lbs of fun torque at the wheels on a Tiptronic.
(Yes, I do have the dyno run to back it up)

Cheers,

Carlos.
