Rolf,
One of the reasons the 1.8T motor sells so quickly at
junkyards is that everyone and their brother are
installing them in rabbits, golfs, jettas, corrados,
etc.
Yes, over 40k miles on the K04'd 1.8T running 1.3 bar
of boost. No issues. Can't have it both ways, you
can't say the 150hp motor is weak, yet say my K04
boosted motor has minor mods.
So far I've seen no indication that the 1.8T motor is
any less robust than any other VW motor. My G60 motor
stripped the crank keyway. On a forged crank. I
thought that was unusual. The 16v motor likes to eat
timing belts and valves (just like the 1.8T) The 8v
motor (the older ones) also like to destroy the crank
keyways... The VR6 motors have head gasket and timing
chain and guide issues.
No motor is bulletproof, but so far the 1.8T has been
very good.
