[A4] Timing belt alignment question

Think of it this way: 2 pulleys are separated by "X" teeth on one side (the
non-tensioner side), and always "X" teeth on that side. Any "extra" teeth
will fall on the tensioner side and the "extra" length will be taken up by
the tensioner. So I don't see how that would make a difference.
I did check the old belt vs. new belt. The old belt has 152 teeth, the new
one 153, so it is different by one. I didn't have time to try the old one
on with the new tensioner, but a quick try showed it to be impossible to
get the old one on easily, it looks like I'll have to remove the tensioner
pulley to get it on, if it fits at all. That experiment will have to wait
until tomorrow, as I got home late tonight.
I'm starting to panic....
Thanks,
Scott

I don't know this as a fact, but possibly one extra tooth shared by two
pulleys equals the half a tooth your present belt is off????
