Sometimes one must do just to make the wife a happy lady :-)

Have your wife test drive a Saab 9-5 wagon. No 4 wheel drive, but quite a
car for the price. My wife picked her Saab sedan over all the others in
that class, including the A6. It's been 3 years and she still loves the
car. We bought it over the Internet, but only because we wanted a specific
color and options, and the two local dealers were not willing to bring in a
car from another dealer.

We have the 2.3 liter four cylinder low pressure turbo (lpt). IMHO, a fine
power plant. You can save money that way over the 3.0 V6. If you really
want pep, go with the Aero, which uses the 2.3 as a high pressure turbo
(hpt).

The 2.3 has chip options to well over 300 HP, which the V6 does not.

Ours is an automatic, much to my initial disappointment. It is actually a
very fine driving auto, but no self shift like triptronic. Ours is a four
speed, the current five speed auto is very fine -- we had a 2002 loaner when
ours was in for its 50K service. Test drive the 5 speed auto in Sport mode,
and gear it down to 3rd or 4th.
