are 1986/87 5ktq brakes really different from other years?

Stephane-
BTDT- I converted my early 5ktq to the G60 calipers, changing rotors
and pads (mandatory) at the same time, with new OEM rubber lines as
well.

Big improvement in braking, absolutely worth it. It's totally bolt-on,
you'll need calipers, lines, rotors and pads to do this. The lines I'm
not 100% sure if they need changing, but I do know there are two
different
part numbers depending on the brake setup, so keep that in mind.

Easy way to tell- pull off a front wheel and look on the outside "top"
of the caliper- if it says G54, you have the earlier single piston
brakes;
if it says G60, you already have the twin-piston brakes and can't
upgrade
further w/ OEM parts, excepting the use of an RS2 caliper bracket and
the
fitment of Porsche 993 turbo calipers, although that would mandate a
minimum
of 16" wheels, new rotors, lines, etc. to the tune of $1200+ at a
minimum
just for the brake components.
