How much to pay for an A4?

How about a handheld or Laptop hooked up to an Delorme Earthmate GPS
receiver? This would be portable, a hell of a lot cheaper than what the
car companies want for their nav systems, and is update-able for much
cheaper. Not to mention you can do a bunch of other things with the
handheld or laptop. I use a Thinkpad with Delorme Street Atlas and the
Earthmate receiver on all long trips, and it works quite well. It is quite
sensitive, as it can tell you which lane of a four-lane highway you are on
while driving. Not to mention all sorts of other goodies, like current
speed (I'm sorry officer, your radar must be wrong, my GPS showed a steady
73.4 mph, and I can show you the log to prove it!) time to destination, and
back on track routing if you miss a turn, as well as voice navigation and
commands (two-way voice between you can the computer.)
One other thing to think of: giving the general shoddy quality of factory
radios, do you really think they can make a nav system (much more
complicated system) that won't go on the fritz within 5 years? I don't.
