The coolant passages need to be restrictive, or it will overheat. why??? I
think there needs to be extra pressure on the coolant where it takes in the
heat so the heat doesn't just boil it (the best asumption i can make.)
They make different size restrictors to put in place of the thermostat in
big ol merican engines when you take the thermostat out so as to not
overheat. I'd say its the same idea.
If it overheated it wasn't the head gasket unless it was leaking. I have
had 300+ hp on 10vt gaskets with no leaks and no overheating w/ an old 4k
radiator in 110 degree weather. If a car overheated, it was the thermostat,
low coolant, plugged radiator, radiator fan malfunction, or the fan switch.
