Ticking 80 Quattro (how i fixed mine)

what weight of oil are you running?
'tis the season for 20w50 in 5 cylinders.
also are you using an OEM filter  or a FRAM POS?
i too had the dread tapping in my 4kq until i went to a valvoline synthetic
oil.
i use 4 quarts valvoline syn 20w50, 1 castrol 20w50.
mobil 1 15w50 didn't quite cut it in my experience, but others have had
good luck with it.
