(Purists can delete this message now.)

Gentlepeople,

You may remember in our last episode how Bad Puppy lost
all oil pressure about a 1/2 mile (1km) from home. One of the
oil cooler hoses separated at the ferule connecting it to the
pipe portion of the hose.

Since this is the second time it's happened (this time on the
used replacement), I thought it was time to do something
about it. So I went to the local FLAPS (friendly local auto parts
store) and picked up a generic replacement oil cooler kit. For
about US$80, I replaced the old oil cooler and hoses with a
new oil cooler and hoses. The full write-up can be seen at:

If anyone wants to grab the files and put them on a more
Audi oriented site (Audifans, Chris Miller, Huw?), feel free.

The good news is that, having been driven a 1/2 mile without
oil pressure, the indestructible I-5 engine (with 220K miles on
it) started up and runs just fine. Can you kill these things?

Warmest regards,
Kent
