I have gotten a lot of mail regarding this and would like to include the
following:
There is somewhat of a story to this car.
I purchased the car because I had surgery to repair a herniated disc and the
seats in my '98 Jetta were uncomfortable. I bought it knowing it needed some
work.
Two months after I bought this I came across a '87 Coupe - original owner -
82,000 miles.
I decided to keep the car as a parts car - I wanted to swap the tranny,
driver's seat and dash with from the '86 to the '87 -- never got around to
doing it.
Got rid of the Jetta.
Moved to NYC. I drive the '87 and put the '86 off the road at a friend's
house in CT. I finally went to pick up the car to bring both to my mechanic
to do the tranny swap, but when I went to pick up the car I found that the
battery had been stolen - and the cables were cut in the process. That was
this past fall. I figured I'd wait until Spring.
In February I herniated another disc -- carrying and installing a new battery
were not an option for me.
I then found a 1989 80 Quattro w/ 63,000 miles and bought it.
So as of today I have a 1986 Coupe GT (parts/project car), a 1987 Coupe GT
(92,000 miles), and a 1989 88 Quattro.
I definitely need to get rid of the 1986 Coupe -- I have been asked to remove
it from where it is being stored. It has the digital dash. It is missing the
right side power window motor - I took it for the '87 coupe. The exhaust
needs to be replaced - the whole exhaust including the downpipe, and the dash
needs to be reassembled. Car has 156K miles, but engine / tranny are strong.
What am I looking for --
If you want the '86 alone you can have it for nothing ($0.00) as long as you
intend to use it for yourself or for another Audi project car and not resell
it
I would also be willing to sell the '87 along with the '86. The '87 has
92,000 miles and is in excellent shape other than the following:
Tranny syncros for 2nd are not great -- but not too bad either My mechanic
said to leave it alone unless I had a replacement tranny (the one from the
'86)
Temperature sensor for the dash is bad -- causes gauge to read overheating
condition when the car is not overheating.
OXS light sometimes come on -- goes off after giving it gas.
Rear exhaust leak -- easy to fix.
Basically my situation is this:
I have three cars and I really only need one.
I have to get rid of the '86 Coupe.
I could go either with the '87 - I like the car, but I don't really need it.
If you are interested please email me and we'll see what we can do.
Jeff
