Sounds simple enough- but what about first gear?  My 5kTQw is dreadfully
slow off the line. Particularly so when loaded with kids, AC on, and
(gasp) towing the 200 lb catamaran.

Once I hit 3000RPM, everything is fine, and I maintain higher RPM at all
shift points- but running from a stoplight its rediculous.  It's almost
like 1st gear is too tall.

What do you do there?
