So you are comparing a _gear start around 1000rpm and holding the gas down?
No one drives like this that wants to accelerate quickly. Its not that hard
to downshift.
Launching a car will spool any mid sized turbo almost instantly, so there
goes the 1st gear lag, and unless it takes you 3+ seconds to shift you won't
have lag in the next gear (unless you shift below 5krpm.) When i had my 4kq
with a MC swap (23psi-k26) normally on the street i could launch @ 4krpm. A
mid size turbo (t3/4) will be in or close to its sweet spot @ this rpm.
BTDT. If you have boost by 3krpm then whats so bad? -unless your turbo
grocery getter gets more groceries than races. If you want more power and
less lag displacement is the only answer. everything else will shift power
up or down the rpm range. Believe it or not the k26 and t3/4 started making
decent boost around 3krpm (i think its due to the combination of IM tuning
and cam specs.) The garret was maybe 2-300rpm later. The t3/4 was good to
~400hp. There's a same car/engine/weight/gears/rotational mass turbo
comparison to ponder...
If you are arguing the point of step on the gas and having boost @ 2krpm,
maybe a supercharger would be more your cup of tea.
