I'm a long way from Denver, but I got mine loose by using a stiff-bladed
putty knife to help cut the adhesive seal.

Did you see the posting about using a 2 X 4 bridge to "take all the strain
out" of hoisting up the heater core box? If you go to Chris Miller's
200q20v website http://members.aol.com/c1j1miller/index.html put heater
core box in the search window and select the first item that comes up,
there's a long write-up on disconnections necessary to remove the heater
core box. You don't need to remove the box, just lift it enough to clear
the A/C evaporator box, but if you scroll to the end of the write-up,
you'll see a posting about using a 2X4 lever to make the lifting of the box
easier.
