Thanks to all who recommended stuff to do in Steamboat. We ended up
visiting Strawberry park hot springs, Steamboat lake (for a swim) and
managed to bike up from the bottom of Mt. Werner (we were staying at the
Steamboat Grand) to the hut just below it's summit at 9700ft (four points
hut?) - without taking the lift up at all, phew, for our sealevel
accustomed lungs that was a tough one. The way down was *lots* of fun
though:)
Saw a few Audis whilst there, a pearl 5ktqa, a couple of A4s, a few A6s, a
very old 4ks, a 4kq, one Allroad and one S4. Lots of very big trucks
though, wtf is a Yukon XL (do they make an XS version;)? The bonnet came
up to my shoulders just about, you'd need a HGV licence to drive one of
them in the UK! There was also a rash of Subaru Outbacks, seem to be the
4wd car of choice out there if you didn't drive a behemoth offroader.
Also managed to coincide with the 14th annual Mustang round-up, that was
cool. They had an autocross on the first day but the most impressive car
going round wasn't a mustang, though they sounded pretty amazing, it was a
new Aston Martin DB7, didn't get out of first gear all round the course,
whilst the mustangs were hitting 2nd and even 3rd in places!! There was
also a Ford Focus going round, was pretty fast despite bogging on the line
a few times.
Anyway, for a first trip to the US, I had a great time, even the local
micro-brewed beer was nice:)
Cheers,
Graham.
P.S. good luck to those in CO in the way of the fires too, we saw some of
the smoke flying from Denver to Hayden, didn't look too pretty.
