It can be -very- frustrating, but can be done. Plan plenty of time,
play relaxing music on the radio, etc :-)

-steering wheel tunnel cover has to come off. Two screws, from
below..only need to pull the top half.

-remove the wedge-shaped trim that goes along the bottom of the
entire cluster...a few small torx screws I think

-apply duct tape or similar rip-resistant tape to the top edge of the
wood..just the top quarter inch or so needs to be protected, really.
Electrical tape would probably be good.

-remove the 2-3 bolts along the bottom of the cluster. These are the
only bolts that hold it in place

-remove cluster

That last step is the really frustrating part. I recommend pulling
it out somewhat, and then looking in back to see what connections you
can easily remove/need to be removed. The major connectors are
secured via a square wedge in their center; use a screwdriver
parallel to the axis of the connector to gently pry the clip up, then
the connector should easily come out.

Check engine bulb is on the right side.  Same bulb as all the others;
I stole the one from the your-door-is-a-jar light.

As the Bently says, installation is reverse of removal. Anyone who
has read the no-longer-increasingly-inaccurately-named Hitchhiker's
Guide to the Galaxy Trilogy will no doubt think of the scene
involving a couch and a staircase, when trying to get the cluster
in/out.

I've done it three times, and I still couldn't tell you, if my life
depended upon it, how I got the #$@! thing in/out.
