So yesterday, I bled the clutch system
repeatedly, using the drivers side caliper as my
tool. I did have a small amount of clutch
actuation. Enough to get it in and out of gears
and get the car going without jerkiness. This is
using the 5ktq pressure hose now. I use the
Valvoline synthetic fluid, btw. Anyway, I
figured the seal might condition overnight. It
did. My clutch does actuate almost fully now. I
still have the ~1" of dead travel I did before,
which is possibly from the clevis bushing being
worn. The other thing is the actaution doesn't
feel full. Like the sharp rise in pressure point
is lower and toward the end, the relief in that
pressure isn't realized. Also, the actuation is
smoother, owing to the synth fluid. I've been
using the Valvoline for a few years and noticed
that the clutch gets smoother, with less
resistance.
Another incidental: when I first got the car, I
saw it was stored for a long time. I always
bleed the brakes and the clutch first. The fluid
was in bad shape. Got my Valvoline synth, bled
out the system. Took a couple of quarts to flush
all of the crap out. Anyway, My clutch wasn't
fully bled at the end, when I ran out of fluid.
I did have some dot 3 laying around that may
have been absorbing water for a while. That's
what the clutch got. Over the month and a half
since, the pedal did lose pressure twice, but
immediately came back. Now, it's all Valvoline
dot4 synth. The clutch works again :)
I ordered my new slave from TPC ($49), so it'll
go in whenever. Hopefully the air chisel doesn't
have to come out, like with my 5ktq :o
