<Six months ago I had the fuel pump and filter replaced on my 89 90q (211k
miles) as preventative maintenance. I noticed about a 500 Hz tone coming
from
the fuel pump shortly thereafter that sounded much louder inside the car
than
outside, but still audible under the car as well. I took the car back to
the
mechanic that I had replace the pump and he told me to get a new pump in
immediately, that this one should not sound like that. He also suggested
that
I replace the rusty accumulator and fuel lines between said pieces. <snip>>
Fuel pumps buzz, that is normal. My best pumper is very loud - not a bee,
more like a hornet.
Accumulator will help dampen noise. Don't replace just because they buzz.
Be more concerned if the ton changes or they start to make other funny
noises, which sometimes correlate to the engine acting up (or down) - then
it is giving you some warning.
<Any btdt with fuel pumps going bad within months of replacement, twice?
Clogged injectors, not enough power going to the pump, etc? Do I just take
the
car to blau, and have them troubleshoot why their pumps are failing in my
car
(I'm two hours from them)? Get a bosch pump?>
I recently had a almost brand new bosch pump start leaking through the
housing. I had removed the old but still working pump because of the
BZzZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz. It was still good.
Now I am using one I swiped off an 80 parts car - higher pressure &
delivery - that is the one that sounds like a hornet..but I don't expect
it to die.
