After 2 days of work I wrapped up my first ever t-belt project on the Coupe.
- that was fun -
... and, off course, I had to see how the NG engine sounds and feels above 4K rpm.
I must say, I am impressed!
I expected it to run out of breath above 5 K, but it seems to blow right past that.
Before you know it you're pushing triple digits. hehe
The sound, ...well, music in my ears (I think I'll tear the radio out!).
I love this car!
This is what I have done to it:
Replaced
T-belt
H2O pump (metal impeller)
idler pulley
cam seal
crank seal (took me three hours to get the old one out)
new belts
drained, flushed, refilled entire cooling system
fresh pentosin for the power steering
radiator fan relay
Ordered
NBG springs (1.6" drop)
Koni adjustables for 4 corners
I have a couple of questions:
I used the GM Dex-Cool Phosphate-Free Orange coolant and noticed last night that the
fluid in the reservoir/expansion tank was quite cloudy. The fresh coolant in the bottle is
translucent Orange. What is going on?
The AC (R-12) is intermittent. Sometimes the clutch engages for 1/2 a second and lets go.
Sometimes, it comes on and cools well through the center vents. And, sometimes, it doesn't come on at all.
The refrigerant looks cloudy viewed through the little window.
The heat is continuously on! When I flushed the coolant system I looked at the little cable-operated
control unit (located in the vicinity below the distributor). It seems to close/open properly. I left it in
the closed position (coolant blocked to heater core) as I reinstalled it. Still warm air out of the
side vents. Am I missing something?
Coming home last night, the gas pedal dropped to the floor. After a quick inspection I found out that
the throttle cable was disconnected from the gas pedal. The bushing (round orange rubber part with
a small hole in the center, located in the top of the gas pedal) has deteriorated and enabled the throttle
cable to slip out. Where can I get a new bushing? Dealer-Only part?
TIA for the your suggestions!
Can't wait to install the new bushings and suspension!
