About 3 years ago, I used some floor and tile cement. Very gooey and goes
on with a brush.

I would have a hard time pulling the headliner off now.

The downside is it bled through in some places where it was applied thickly
so there are brown spots. Eventually I will paint with some Kilz and latex
paint.

Make sure everything below is covered well before applying anything, and
make sure you have the appropriate solvent and lots of rags on hand if you
consider doing this, as it is very messy.

In retrospect, having it done professionally for under $300 doesn't sound
too bad if you intend to keep the car. The flooring cement was economical
though and only took about an hour.

[...An automotive interiors
place says the only way to fix this is to replace it. $275 to re-apolster
(sp) the whole interior ceiling minus the sun roof and the visors. Doesn't
sound too bad to me. They said it will take them a whole day to do the
job.

I guess what happens is there is a foam backing on the fabric that is glued
to the particle board. The fabricx delaminates from this. According to
this installer, re-gluing doesn't work as it only lasts temporarily.
