RS6 vs M5

these sorts of notes are always good for a chuckle. sort of
internet-version of the school yard bragging session....
yawn.
what "beats" another car is surely not the realm of (ahem) spectators, but
those people who actually buy these cars? the rest is just schoolboy egos.
with all due respect, audi couldn't care less about anything other than how
big the queue is to buy these cars. seems like the a6-end-of-life-kicker is
doing a fine job from where i sit.
anyway, rather than having latte discussions on bhp and skid-pan numbers,
nz'ers have queued up to plunk down deposits on the car. the rs6 is, as i
understand it, sold out (50 allocation) here in nz - 9 months before
delivery. as was the rs4. the rs6 costs $usd110k here btw. the rs4 is
still selling for between 90-95% of new price here 20 months after delivery
(recent sale in local dealer @$158K vs $165k new). my rs2 has depreciated
only 55% in 7 years, and 25% in my care. this makes owners happy with hi-po
audi ownership.
every time audi builds one of these cars, a orderly queue forms, and those
with money say to audi "thanks very much", those without stick with the
magazines, and kick tyres. audi started with the sport, then the rs2, the
rs4 and now the rs6. each a better car than the last, and also more
successful.
and on the auto/stick issue. as the rs6 torque converter locks up, and
there is a paddle shift, isn't this getting a little academic? want to know
how many sequential shift modena 360's ferrari shifts versus the manuals?

I personally read these comparos with a smile on my face.
Remember, right
now the RS6 is being compared to the *current* rolling (not
new) M5,
available in 400hp trim in the US. The RS6 might come here
(US), but if
history repeats itself in Bavaria, a pre-emptive strike at
the RS6 will
undoubtedly happen, another hat trick if they get the
'beater' into customers
hands before I-stot delivers the first. And if history
repeats itself, audi
will then try to distance itself from the M5 comparos.
What would really rock the boat, just might be the M version
of the X5. The
lap times at Nuremburg of the non M version are enough to
stir up the
fanatics of any marque.
My .02, and not holding my breath, hoping to be proven wrong
