Same problem on my '92 S4.  If wait long enough it eventually retracts.  The
problem only happens on the driver's side - in my case.

Have taken the B pillar trim off and tried to loosen up the retractor -
wondering if it's just gotten dirty in the retractor.  I couldn't find any
way to really get inside and lube or clean out the retractor.

Of course, I also wonder if lubricating the retractor is a good idea since I
don't really know how the inertia lock interacts with the normal retractor.

Any ideas out there?
