I don't have any direct feedback on the Sumitomos for you, but I too have
run the Kumhos on my Coupe Quattro, and I've been pretty impressed. Most
impressive I think for me was the wet handling. I didn't realize how grippy
they were on water until this winter when I cut over to Blizzak snow tires -
supposed to be good tires in wet and snow - and although they're great on
snow, my Kumho's put them to shame in the wet. For your mom, I think it
would be highly unlikely that the Sumitomo's would be substantially better
in ride quality, and the Kumho's are so reliable in wet and dry, I'd be
inclined to go with the known quantity myself. If you were trying to
maximize dry track performance or somthing, I'd say take a chance on a
different brand, but otherwise...
