Sandblasting is sweet!

The galvanized coating?
I'm sure he can sort the galvanized chips from the sand dunes on the floor
of his garage and glue them back on.....
Sand blasting is ok for the pre-'87 non-galvanized cars, but:
1) Use gloves to touch the bare metal - the oils on your skin will migrate
into the peened surface of the metal and show through when you paint.
2) Clean out the nooks and crannies - sand blasting will create sand dunes
inside hard-to-reach nooks and crannies as well as on the floor - it may be
hard to get the sand out, and the dunes may promote rust.
3) Vision and breathing protection - atomized paint chips, blasting sand and
assorted greases/etc. are not the best for your eyes and lungs.
4) Be careful not to get carried away blasting - not only can the sand erode
the metal, but it can also stretch it (although not as much a concern in the
engine bay as with, say, the hood)
Oh, you may also want to take it easy on the VIN stamped into the firewall,
you could make it hard to see after the paint goes on.
Now if it was a galvanized Audi, state the following with an accompanying
slap to the forehead (a la Homer) "DOH!!!!"
Cheers!
